The Wayne Interfaith Network (WIN) has collected $875 to assist families whose homes were damaged or destroyed by the recent flooding.
WIN has partnered with the township to help the approximately 600 families who were displaced late last week.
"I met a woman in our church parking lot who said she wanted to help those people who were affected by the flooding, but said she didn't know how," said Rev. Karyn Ratcliffe of the Packanack Community Church. "It became so clear to me that we had to put something together to help those in need."
WIN is requesting cash contributions and donations of gifts cards from the following businesses: Kohls, Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Lowes, and the major supermarkets in the township: Shop Rite, Foodtown, A&P, and Stop and Shop. Cards in denominations of $20 each are preferred.
Donations can be dropped off or mailed to the Packanack Community Church, where the WIN Food Pantry is located, 120 Lake Drive East; office hours are 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Non-perishable food donations are not needed at this time, but as the food pantry's supplies become depleted, an appeal for donations will be issued.
