Wayne Churchgoer Receives Congressional Bronze Medal

Seth Alicea slept outside Calvary Temple in a cardboard box to bring attention to homelessness.

A Wayne churchgoer who lived outside for a night has been awarded a Congressional Bronze Medal.

Seth Alicea, a junior at Eastern Christian High School, spent a night outside his church, Calvary Temple International Assembly, earlier this year to bring attention to the plight of local homeless people.

“It was a crazy experience,” Alicea said. “I was a bit embarrassed and uncomfortable but I wanted to feel that because I wanted to know how homeless people feel.”

Alicea wants to earn the Congressional Silver and Gold Medals as well.

“I just want to better myself as a person and do something to help other people, which this award is helping me to do,” Alicea said.
