Volunteers, Businesses Helping Sandy Victims

Food, showers, charging stations available for residents with no power to use.

Wayne VOAD has arranged for basic services to be provided to residents who are without power.

VOAD is a volunteer organization of residents who donate their time to ensure that those members of the community who need assistance receive it.

Hot meals

Hot meals will be provided for those who are without power who are unable to provided food for themselves beginning Thursday, Nov. 1. Meals will be served at the Police Athletic League (PAL), 1 PAL Drive, from 5 to 7:30 p.m.

Volunteers are needed to donate trays of prepared food, set up at the PAL and serve food. Food may be dropped off at the Wayne PAL between 3:30 and 4:30 p.m.

Showers

Showers are available for residents without power at the PAL from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Charging and warming stations

The following locations are available as places to warm up and charge a cell phone:

  • Police Athletic League
  • Elks Lodge, from 10 a.m. to noon.
  • Shomrei Torah, Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Positano’s restaurant, during normal business hours.

Shelter

The shelter at Kilroy Park can accommodate up to 25 people. The facility has showers and cots. Volunteers are needed to work at the shelter.

Kilroy Park is located at 1 Concord Place, off of Kiwanis Drive. Vehicle access is blocked by fallen trees. Attendees need to park on Kiwanis and walk across the footbridge to the shelter.
