Volunteers, Businesses Helping Sandy Victims

Food, showers, charging stations available for residents with no power to use.

Wayne VOAD has arranged for basic services to be provided to residents who are without power.

VOAD is a volunteer organization of residents who donate their time to ensure that those members of the community who need assistance receive it.

Hot meals

Hot meals will be provided for those who are without power who are unable to provided food for themselves beginning Thursday, Nov. 1. Meals will be served at the Police Athletic League (PAL), 1 PAL Drive, from 5 to 7:30 p.m.

Volunteers are needed to donate trays of prepared food, set up at the PAL and serve food. Food may be dropped off at the Wayne PAL between 3:30 and 4:30 p.m.

Showers are available for residents without power at the PAL from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Charging and warming stations

The following locations are available as places to warm up and charge a cell phone:

  • Police Athletic League
  • Elks Lodge, from 10 a.m. to noon.
  • Shomrei Torah, Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Positano’s restaurant, during normal business hours.


The shelter at Kilroy Park can accommodate up to 25 people. The facility has showers and cots. Volunteers are needed to work at the shelter.

Kilroy Park is located at 1 Concord Place, off of Kiwanis Drive. Vehicle access is blocked by fallen trees. Attendees need to park on Kiwanis and walk across the footbridge to the shelter.

Locals helping locals--like in the poeple did for each other after the MO tornadoes. As usual, no speedy activity that would be useful to the distraught citizens from Barry's regimen.

yes doesnt it seem despite the so called resources & headlines "Obama released funds/FEMA"whatever....people end up w.formaldehyde mobile homes, billions Fema gave out in error BILLIONS..& in the end its the people helpin each other out of their own pocket.I,for one,am so sick of the politicians tricks Its "1 for U & 10 for me" they become millionaires as a representative 4the people? Then 2confuse matters they try fool us "more taxes,fair share" rhetoric Sadly SOME fools actually buy in2 the class warfare angle. Hopefully MOST R waking up Best thing Obama said was "Forward..we cant go back to.." yes Mr Pres exactly! back 2 u.

Some politicians I do sense care somewhat like Christie..but most R in it 4what they can get. Are there any politicians on line serving food? Donating clothes? Too many R caught w.their hand in the cookie jar A recent NYpoll showed despite State Dems corruption(taxEVASION..there goes that "fair share" rhetoric) stealin funds meant 4DONATIONS...etc yet the fool people say theyd still rather their party voted in.Suckers.I can only imagine the "1 for U people &10for me the politician" works 4them?I still want 2now Y they exempt themselves from Obamacare will we ever get that answer?
