Volunteers Assemble Cots, Prepare Food

Health officer MaryAnn Orapello: 'As long as there's a need, we'll be here.'

Residents assembled cots and made signs at a shelter in the building at Kilroy Park Thursday in preparation for residents' arrival.

The shelter is a joint venture between the Wayne Health Department, Wayne Volunteer Organizations Assisting in Disasters, a newly formed grassroots organizations of residents and civic leaders assisting residents during the ongoing flooding, and the town's Community Emergency Response Team.

'You're heart breaks for these folks, the least we can do is make them comfortable," said Chris Ceravolo, scout master of Boy Scout Troop 104.

The shelther is located at 6 Concord Place.

Residents critizied officials at a council meeting Wednesday night for not doing enough to help residents affected by the ongoing flooding.

Mayor Christopher Vergano offered residnets the chance to stay in the municipal complex at the meeting. No one took him up on the offer.

Those wishing to volunteer at the shelter should contact Rev. Karyn Ratcliffe, VODA's chairperson, at Pastorkaryn@mac.com.
