Town's Water Deemed 'Safe'

Water supply does not have any dangerous levels of lead, copper, or E. coli bacteria, results show.

The town’s water supply is safe and does not contain any dangerous levels of lead or copper, an annual report on the township’s water quality shows.

Tap water in the township met all health standards as set by the federal Environmental Protection Agency and the state.

The levels of lead, copper, organic and inorganic compounds, and microbiological substances, including E. coli were not found to be in violation of the health standards.

Lead in drinking water is most likely enters the water supply via lead pipes in residents’ homes and not from the water supply itself.

Wayne gets its drinking water from the North Jersey District Water Supply Commission from the Wanaque and Monksville reservoirs. The town also has the capability of getting water from the Pompton and Ramapo rivers.
