Students Stand Up for a Cause

Business owner creates natural cosmetics using products from local merchants.

Here’s what’s coming up this week on Wayne Patch.

Victoria Wakile and Natasha Daibes, students at Wayne Hills High School, have founded the Stand Up For A Cause Club, a group of students who hold regular fundraisers at the school and donate the proceeds to a different non-profit organization every month. We spoke to the students and found out what motivated them to create the club.

We’ll talk to Giovanna Minutolo Cicillini, a Wayne resident and co-owner of G&D Cosmestics, a company that manufactures its own natural cosmetics with ingredients purchased from local merchants.

William Paterson University will host a celebration of Chinese New Year on Feb. 17 that includes demonstrations of traditional Chinese music, dance and ink painting.

The county is expected to receive bids soon on several road resurfacing projects in the county, including Wayne. The town council is also considering an ordinance to bond approximately $1.9 million for the 2011 road-resurfacing project. The town could also appropriate funds to purchase a new thermal imaging camera for Fire Company No. 2 and a new rescue boat, replacement engine, inflatable auxiliary boat and safety gear.

There is a council meeting scheduled for Feb. 16 at 8 p.m. in the municipal complex.

There is a regular meeting of the board of education scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 17, in the municipal complex at 8 p.m.
