The average homeowner’s school taxes could increase $182, . The district’s proposed tax levy is approximately $129.8 million. Of that $129.8 million, $117.2 million would fund employee salaries and benefits, a nearly 4 percent increase year to year.

The board will hold a special meeting Monday at 6:30 p.m. at George Washington Middle School to discuss the budget and proposed cuts for the 2012-2013 school year.

The newly formed Concerned Citizens of Wayne will hold its first community outreach forum Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the .

The non-partisan group was formed after a rash of burglaries in and around Wayne earlier this year.

The meeting will feature a panel discussion with several municipal and county law enforcement officials, including , Passaic County and representatives from the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.

The public will have the opportunity to ask attendees questions.

Ray Li, a Wayne resident, is finalist for the fifth annual Business Plan Competition.

Li is the creator of Heart Juice, a beverage specially formulated for heart health. Li launched the product in 2011.

Li could receive $30,000 in cash and services if he comes in first place in the competition.  We’ll let you know how he finishes in the competition.

Li and the other four finalists will each give a three-minute long investor pitch to a panel of judges at the luncheon.

The Institute for Entrepreneurial Leadership (IEL) is sponsoring the competition. The IEL is a non-profit organization that assists local entrepreneurs to help grow their businesses.
