Substitute Teachers, Wayne Day, a New Deli Opens and More This Week

Here's a look at some of the stories you can find on Wayne Patch this week.

  • Residents are expected to pack a Board of Education meeting Thursday due to a substitute teacher allegedly hitting young students at Pines Lake Elementary in the head.

Parents have said that substitutes have been a problem in the district since the beginning of the school year. Source4Teachers, an independent subsitute staffing firm, provides the district with the substitutes.

The meeting will be held at the district’s office at 50 Nellis Drive and broadcast live online.

  • A grand opening ceremony will be held Thursday for a new deli on Mountain View Boulevard.

The deli is one of a few businesses to open in the Mountain View section of town lately. A grocery store featuring items from Europe and Asia opened late last year.

  • Wayne Day will be held Sunday, June 9 at Wayne Valley High School. We’ll attend the annual event, one of the most well-attended in town, and show some of the fun activities there.
  • Resident Emily Schuman will be honored at the Wayne YMCA Wednesday for her volunteer work by Home Instead Senior Care, an agency that provides in-home help to senior citizens.
  • A grand opening for the Senior Solutions Center at the YMCA will be held at the same ceremony. The facility will provide caregivers support and tools for coping with age-related issues their family members are experiencing. Home Instead will run the center.
