Store Owner Charged, Mitchell Pleads His Case For Tenure, And A School Bus Is Vandalized

The owner of the Red Carpet Pageant and Prom store, who previously in the week, reported that 40 dresses valued at $20,000 had been stolen from the store, was issued a summons Tuesday for filing a false police report, Wayne police said.

Police issued the summons after they watched video they said showed Patricia Dowling removing 40 dresses off a rack herself and placing them in a storage room. Dowling originally reported that the dresses were stolen sometime between 9 a.m. on May 15 and 2:20 p.m. on May 16.

Two men were charged Tuesday with attempting to steal cooking oil from tanks belonging to Hooters restaurant, Police reported.

Schuyler-Colfax Middle School interim Principal Robert Mitchell made his case for tenure to district officials at a special meeting last week. The Board of Education chose not to grant Mitchell tenure as principal earlier in the month.

A catalytic converter was stolen out of one school bus and one was attempted to be removed from another, district officials said this week. The buses were discovered on April 30.
