Sheriff's Office Planning for Irene's Impact

Agency will be on "full alert" Friday.

The Passaic County Sheriff's Office and the county Office of Emergency Management will be on call this weekend to assist residents during what county Sheriff Richard Berdnik is calling a "potential extreme weather incident."

All Sheriff's officers and staff will be on call, including the Scuba Team, and ready to deploy due to flooding. Inmate work crews will help fill sandbags in affected communities Friday and Saturday.

Boats at the Sheriff's Office headquarters will be standing by for rapid deployment throughout the county should they be needed.

The Sheriff's Office will coordinate with the Passaic County Office of Emergency Management and local public safety entities throughout the weekend.

"It is essential that the Sheriff's Office assets are available to the affected municipalities as we all plan for this storm," Berdnik said in a statement.
