Ryan Ireland Receives Eagle Scout Award

Ryan Ireland was presented with the Eagle Scout Award by the Wayne Board of Education Thursday.

Ireland designed and managed the construction of a footbridge at Laurelwood Arboretum for his Eagle Scout service project.

"The board of education congratulates [him] for his outstanding achievements and special efforts in fulfilling the stringent character, service, and leadership requirements of [becoming] an Eagle Scout," said Joan Walsh, who presented Ireland with the award.

To attain the rank of Eagle Scout, a young man must earn 21 merit badges, demonstrate Scout Spirit, and plan, develop, and lead a service project — called The Eagle Project — that demonstrates both leadership and a commitment to duty. 

Less than 2 percent of Boy Scouts earn the rank of Eagle Scout.

Ireland is a member of Boy Scout Troop 102.
