Several Inches of Snow Cover Wayne Roads

Plows were out early Friday clearing roads. Garbage collection for Saturday is cancelled.

The first big snowstorm covered Wayne in several inches of snow Friday into Saturday.

Department of Public Works personnel were plowing the streets throughout the day.

Roadways were covered with several inches of snow Friday night into Saturday morning. It was possible to drive on roads Friday morning and into the early afternoon. After the snow picked up intensity Friday afternoon there were fewer and fewer vehicles on the roads.

"We had such a good streak going this winter with not having a lot to worry about," said Connie D'Marco as she packed a few bags into her car at Foodtown on Route 23. 

The township has cacelled garbage collection for Saturday and the recycling center will be closed. Collection will resume on Wednesday.

The Division of Water has advised residents to be mindful of frozen water pipes. Residents should call the police department at 973-694-0600 if any pipes should become frozen and burst. For more information click here.

The National Weather Service forecast snow for Saturday morning. Snow is expected to stop at about 9 a.m. with an additional one inch of accumulation expected.
