Residents Can Walk to Help Find a Cure for Rare Disease

Annual MG Walk-A-Thon will be held Saturday, May 5.

The 15th annual Myasthenia Gravis (MG) Walk-A-Thon will be held Saturday, May 5.

MG a rare, chronic autoimmune neuromuscular disease that affects voluntary muscle movement. MG is caused by a defect in a transmission of nerve impulses. The immune system produces antibodies that destroy or block the receptors for acetylcholine, which helps generate muscle contractions. 

, a Wayne resident, organizes and runs the event. DeVincentis was diagnosed with MG as a teenager. She founded the Garden State Chapter of the MG Foundation Inc. to increase awareness about the disease.

The will take place around Packanack Lake. Registration begins at 10 a.m., registration begins at 9:45 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.
