QB Olsen Charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident

Miami Hurricanes recruit struck a car last month and then walked away from the scene, reports say.

Kevin Olsen, one of the top quarterback recruits in the country this year, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident after he smashed his car into a vehicle in his hometown of Wayne last month, court records show.

Olsen committed to the Miami Hurricanes last year and comes from a family of football fame, including his brother, Carolina Panther Greg Olsen.

The Wayne Hills High School student, who will graduate this month, was additionally charged with with failure to report an accident and careless driving after a May 25 incident on Emerson Place in which a bystander said Olsen crashed his car into a tree and drove away.

The witness said he saw a black sport utility vehicle, which Olsen was driving, back away from a tree that it appeared to hit. Olsen reportedly exited the vehicle, surveyed the damage to the car, got back into the vehicle, and left.

But before leaving the neighborhood, police said Olsen struck another vehicle that was parked on the road. Olsen then exited his car a second time and walked away from the scene, according to the report.

The report states that Olsen’s face appeared to have blood on it and that he “appeared to be under the influence of something.”

Olsen’s license was found by a nearby resident in front of his house at about 11:30 a.m. the next day.

Olsen is scheduled to appear in Wayne Municipal Court June 20.

Olsen was one of the top-ranked high school quarterback recruits in the country before he signed a letter of intent to play for Miami. He played for Team Nitro in the Under Armor High School All-American Game in January.
