Police: Electronics, Jewelry Stolen in String of Burglaries

The Wayne Police Department has released a list of burglaries that have occurred in the township between Aug. 1 and Sept. 4.

Detectives are actively investigating these crimes and have developed leads identifying persons of interest, Detective Capt. James Clarke said.

Jewelry and electronic equipment were stolen in many of the incidents.

Aug. 2: Larkspur Road. A rear door was kicked in while a resident was home; a male was encountered in the hallway, police said.

Aug. 4: Chestnut Drive, during the early afternoon hours. Jewelry and an ATM card were taken from the residence; a white male driving a black Harley-Davidson motorcycle was seen leaving the residence, police said.

Aug. 5: Lions Head Boulevard, between 7 and 10 p.m.. Police said entry was through a garage door and that there were no signs of forced entry. Authorities said televisions, computers, jewelry and a safe were stolen.

Aug. 7: Andover Drive. There was one attempted burglary at 10:38 p.m. and another burglary at an unknown time; jewelry was stolen, police said. A resident was home during one of the incidents, authorities said. Two males were seen leaving the area in a green Dodge caravan with a North Carolina license plate, number: AEE5054, authorities said. The incident is believed to be tied a large burglary ring from New York, police said.

Aug. 18: Grantwood Road, daytime hours. Jewelry was stolen, police said.

Aug. 25: Kenwood Road, between 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.. A back window was smashed and jewelry was stolen, police said.

Sept. 4: Atwood Place, between 5 and 11 p.m. . Authorities said there was no forced entry through a back door; a television was stolen.  

There was an attempted break-in on Medford Place Sept. 4. Police said pry marks were found on a back door.

Clarke said that there have been other calls of suspicious activity that have been reported, on some occasions well after the activity has taken place.

The police department requests that suspicious activity be reported immediately to assist in combating crime within the township, Clarke said.
