Officials Invited To Attend Flood Preparedness Workshop

County program designed to foster communication and collaboration between officials.

County and local officials will discuss potential solutions to flooding and ways to minimize the frequency and severity of flood events in the Passaic River Basin at a special workshop on Friday, May 18.

Several topics will be discussed at the workshop, including: the impact that potential climate change has had on flooding in the basin, how to best manage restored areas in the floodplain, and implementing an environmentally-friendly storm water management infrastructure.

The event is also designed to promote better communication between officials at various levels of government.

Larry Levine , a senior attorney with the Natural Resources Defense Council, will give the keynote address.

The workshop begins at 8 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m. It will be held at the on Oldham Road. Lunch will be provided.

The county is encouraging municipal officials, emergency management coordinators, planning and zoning board members, and engineers to attend the workshop.

The workshop is free to attend but attendees need to pre-register by Thursday, May 10.

An on flooding in the basin will be held at on Wednesday, May 2.

Various local, state, and federal officials will try and educate North Jersey residents about the science, economic impact, and officials’ response to flooding in the basin at the symposium.
