Officials Looking to Store Buses at Business Center

Fleet of 80 buses, transportation office could move to more secure Totowa Business Center.

Officials are looking to relocate where the district’s buses are parked and stored.

The Board of Education authorized Superintendent Ray Gonzalez and other officials to negotiate an agreement to rent space at the Totowa Business Center on Riverview Drive.

If an agreement were reached, the district’s fleet of 80 school buses, the transportation administrative offices, and the bus maintenance garage would be moved to the center. The buses are kept in North Cove Park near the Police Athletic League in the Mountainview section of town. The area is not protected by a gate or fence.

Board trustee Bob Ceberio, chairman of the board’s transportation committee, said that the some of the school buses have been vandalized in the past year. A catalytic converter was stolen out of one bus and one was attempted to be removed from another bus last April.

The board’s attorney and the board would need to approve any agreement once it is finalized.
