Officials Cancel Halloween Trick or Treating

Personnel concerned about residents' safety.

Officials have cancelled Halloween trick or treating Wednesday.

"We are concerned about residents' safety. We don't want people walking outside in the dark where there are downed trees and power lines," said Police Chief John Reardon.

A special trunk or treat event will be held at the Wayne YMCA Wednesday at 1 p.m.

Governor Christie issued an executive order Wednesday morning postponing Halloween celebrations, including trick or treating, throughout New Jersey until Monday, Nov. 5.

"In too many communities in our state, the damage and losses from this storm are still being sorted out and dangerous conditions abound even as our emergency conditions abound even as our emergency management and response officials continue their work," Christie said in a statement.
