Halloween Canceled in Wayne

Message phoned out to residents Sunday night.

Police Chief John Reardon and school district administrators have decided to cancel Halloween festivities Monday, including trick or treating.

The police department sent out a message informing residents of the decision Sunday night.

The message said officials said the decision was made due to the unsafe conditions that still exist in town due to Hurricane Sandy.

There are still hundreds of downed trees and power lines are strewn across township roads.

The message said that "there are no plans to reschedule the event."

Governor Chris Christie postponed Halloween activities for Oct. 31 due to Hurricane Sandy. He rescheduled them statewide for Monday.

Local officials cancelled Halloween shortly before Christie postponed activities across the state.

Anyone know of any neighboring towns that are still having Halloween trick or treating today?

It really is time for the township to consider its tree abatement policy in view of the damage done by falling trees resulting in property damage power outages and personal injury. The june 22 2012 tree trimming memo from PSEG framed the issue best but I suppose the township was too focused on mowing the lawn of a home where the deceased veteran Mr Domsky lay undiscovered for a year until the tax bill came due and some paid it off to claim ownership to get around to promulgating and enforcing a tree abatement policy in keeping with itsnon existant Irene emergency shelter plan I do suppose? Here of course the chief rightly weighs in on the tree crisis.

Are you for real?

Chris has done a fantastic job during the crisis. The town has been working 15 hour days removing trees but they can't remove ones with power lines involved

Wayne Presbyterian Church at the corner of Ratzer & Alps is having an impromptu Trunk or Treat at 5 tonight - no need to decorate cars. Just come with your kids in costume and candy so that the kids have a chance to trick or treat and have a little Halloween fun.

Everyone involved in the effort to get things back in order is doing a great job!!! I applaud Gov. Christie as well for being a strong leader during this unprecedented disaster in NJ (and I'm a lifelong Democrat) I feel bad for the kids but it's a good lesson that life isn't always perfect. All we need is patience and we'll get through this. Joe S. - Wayne / Packanack Lake

Bring it to Smile Specialists in Oakland across from the Shoprite on Wednesday the 7th between 3:30pm and 6pm! We give you a dollar a pound and donate the candy to the troops and local food pantries. We also give the children a coupon to Frank's Pizza for a free slice of pizza and soda.
