New Quick Chek Could Be Built On Hamburg Turnpike

Store would go on the former Chrysler property near William Paterson University.

A new Quick Chek convenience store and gas station could be built on the former Chrysler Dodge property on Hamburg Turnpike.

The application is being heard before the Planning Board.

The 6,300 square foot store would be open 24 hours a day.

The 2.7 acre property is located across the street from a 7-Eleven convenience store, , and cafe. is located a few hundred feet up the road. The store would cater, and most likely employ, students who attend the university. Three existing buildings on the property would be torn down.

Unlike the Quick Chek located in Pompton Plains on Jackson Avenue, this store would have seats, 13 inside and 20 outside, for patrons to sit and a gas station. Eight fuel stations, with room for 16 pumps, would be located under a 6,900 square foot canopy.

The application states the store would be operating by 2014 if the application is approved.

The plans also call for 87 parking spaces to be installed on the property, far more than the 46 that the township is requiring.

The property would contain two points of entry: one on Hamburg Turnpike and another on Pompton Road.

A traffic impact study conducted last year determined that the store "would not have a significant impact on the traffic" in the area. The majority of vehicles heading into the establishment would already be traveling on nearby roadways.

Vehicles would be prohibited from prohibited from making a left-hand turn out of the property onto Hamburg Turnpike, the same as for several nearby properties.

Mayor Chris Vergano was concerned about the color several dozen parking "bollards" located around the building. The structures are designed to prevent vehicles from hitting the building. Vergano wants their color changed to something more ascetically pleasing other than green, which would match part of the building.

"Find another color other than green," Vergano said.

The application was carried to the Board's Sept. 24 meeting.

Good, all these empty car dealerships in town make us look like a blighted area. Preakness Chevy, Wayne dodge, are the worst looking only surpassed by borough motors .

Hey mayor, find another color than green is none of your business. You are not the designer. Get with the program and learn the limits of your involvement

This way the college students don't have to cross the street - that's a good thing. and 7-11 has better slurpie machines. The machines at QuikCheck's at usually broken or temporarily out of order.

"Vergano wants their color changed to something more ascetically pleasing other than green" All spelling aside (ascetically?)... Anybody who thinks that looking good means combing their hair from one ear to another, just to hide their baldness, really shouldn't be commenting on which color is more pleasing than another. So arrogant...yet so clueless at the same time. Newsflash...hey buddy..you're not fooling anybody...it's OK to be bald and proud. Heck...there are plenty of young guys out there who shave their heads and pretend to be bald, just because they think it looks good. Should we ask them to pick out colors too?

Hey Mayor, Why don't you stick to something you are good at? Like ribbon-cutting. So they match the building color. Are you saying Quick Cheks aren't appealing to the eye. Look we need ratables in this town. We don't need this petty BS everytime someone wants to place a buisness here. Your doing a good job of driving the residents out of town with your never ending tax increases. Your the worst Mayor Wayne has seen since the one that was sent to jail. Either be a Mayor or quit.
