The Wayne Interfaith Network has relocated its food pantry to the Wayne YMCA.

The food pantry had been located at Packanack Community Church.

Personnel running the pantry began looking for another location in January. Church trustees met with WIN officials to see if there was another location they could store their excess food. Donations would often be piled up in the hallway and near the church entrance.

About 60 Wayne families receive assistance from the pantry every month.

“Being at the Y allows for added privacy and convenience for our clients,” Herb Schuman, coordinator of the food pantry, said in a statement. “The Y has been so cooperative.”

The food pantry was founded in 1984. Prospective clients are refereed to the pantry by the Wayne Department of Social Services.

“When we heard that the food pantry was looking to relocate, the Y was a natural choice,” Tony Ceresoli, the Y’s executive director, said in a statement. “We are happy to be able to fill this need for the food pantry and help our community at the same time.”

The pantry is always in need of the following items: canned goods, dried milk, pastas, sauces, peanut butter, jelly, and baby food. Household paper goods, cleaning products, and toiletries are also needed.
