Police closed down Hamburg Turnpike at Terhune Drive Monday due to water from the Pompton Falls hitting the deck of a nearby bridge.
Traffic was backed up in the area. Passersby pulled their vehicles into nearby parking lots to take photos and videos of the raging waters. No word yet on when the roadway will be reopened.
The Pompton River is reported to be at a height of 20.2 feet, more than a foot above "major flood" stage. The Ramapo River at Pompton Lakes is reported to be at a height of more than 15.8 feet, more than one foot above "major flood stage."
