Gift Allows Kids to go to Prom, New Deli Opens and More This Week

Here are some of the stories you may find on Wayne Patch this week.

Here is a sample of what we’re working on this week for Wayne Patch.

  • An anonymous donor has made it possible for some Wayne Hills seniors to attend the prom.

“It truly is amazing that someone would just give like that,” said Michael Shale Jr., the faculty prom advisor at Wayne Hills.

  • There is a new deli in town. The Mountain View Deli recently celebrated its grand opening. The family-owned business features a selection of breakfast, lunch, and dinner items and specializes in Mediterranean cuisine.  Paul Menoski opened the business with his wife and four sons.

“I am doing what I truly love and I want others to love it too,” Menoski said.

  • Angels Without Wings, a non-profit, has partnered with Title Boxing Club to host a self-esteem workshop and training this week.

Kids will have the opportunity to learn basic boxing and kickboxing techniques.

“Part of it is the idea of being fit and staying in shape,” said Valerie Krsulic, founder of Angels Without Wings. “It builds confidence and when you’re confident in yourself, you can do anything.”

  • A high school club has created an exhibit of clothing from the late 19th century and early 20th centuries at the Van Riper Hopper House. We’ll let you know how the girls came up with the idea for the exhibit.

“It’s a wonderful exhibit and it show you what can happen when enthusiastic students come together about something,” said Carol D’Alessandro, coordinator of the Van-Riper Hopper House.
