County hosting free recycling event later this month.

Residents can dispose of their unwanted electronics at a free computer and electronics recycling collection event later this month.

The free service is being offered on Friday, Sept. 28 and Saturday, Sept. 29 at the Passaic County Para-Transit Facility on Route 23 North, behind Ski Barn, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Participants should take the service road next to Ski Barn to get to the facility.

The following items may be brought: computer monitors, hard drives, printers, keyboards, modems, copier and fax machines, television sets, VCRs, stereo systems, compact disc players, and telephones.

Businesses may bring their unwanted equipment, but they must pre-register. To pre-register call 973-305-5738.

"By participating in this event, Passaic County residents and businesses will show their support for recycling these items into other useful products by keeping them out of our diminishing landfill space," said Nina Seiden, solid waste and recycling program manager for the county. "As of Jan. 1, lead, mercury, and cadmium are prohibited from entering our groundwater and can no longer be thrown away in the regular garbage."
