Friends of Alan Mendez and Nick Sabina are posting their memories and tributes to the boys on a Facebook page created in their memory.

Mendez, 16, and Sabina, 17, died when a NJ Transit train struck and killed them while they walked on a trestle above Route 46. A third individual, a 15-year-old from Fairfield, was taken to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Mendez, who was called "A.J." by his friends, attended Wayne Valley High School.

"There won't be a day that goes by when somebody isn't thinking about you, missing you," Kayla Dawn posted.

A moment of silence was held in memory of Mendez at Wayne Valley Monday during ninth period.

"No matter what you would do to him, he would come back at you with a smile on his face," said Lauraine Prahm, a friend of Mendez. "He always had a smile on his face and he always made you smile. He was so sweet and genuine. He was one of my best friends."
