Food Pantry Opens at the YMCA

Wayne Interfaith Network moved its food pantry to the location earlier this year.

The Wayne Interfaith Network’s food pantry is now open and accepting donations at the Wayne YMCA.

WIN held a grand opening for the pantry nearlier this month.

The food pantry used to be located at Packanack Community Church. Officials decided to move the pantry to the Wayne YMCA earlier this year because there is more storage space there. Excess food was piling up at the church and would often be kept in the hallways and near the church entrance.

About 60 Wayne families receive assistance from the pantry every month.

“Being at the Y allows for added privacy and convenience for our clients,” Herb Schuman, coordinator of the food pantry, said in a statement in March. “The Y has been so cooperative.”
