Floodgates Opened on Pompton Lake Dam

The floodgates on the Pompton Lakes dam were manually opened Saturday in anticipation of Tropical Storm Sandy in an effort to relieve possible downstream flooding for residents who live below the dam.

Board Candidates in Favor of Pay Freeze

Some Board of Education candidates said they would be in favor of instituting a pay freeze given the fact that residents will not vote on the tax levy for a few more years.

The candidates were asked the following question at a recent candidates' forum:

"Due to the 2 percent cap on spending and the fact that voters will not vote on a tax levy until 2015, would you support asking administrators, including the superintendent, to take a pay cut?"

Students Get the Inside Scoop on High School

Four Lafayette Elementary School students asked student leaders from Wayne Valley High School a few questions about their experiences this week at a special assembly sponsored by MSG Varsity.

Microphone in hand, Anjail Ghosh, Jenna Ender, Colin Ramos, and Frank Tortora interviewed Amy DeVoe, Bob Steomack, Bari Nedick, and Luke Primerano. Students from the audience asked questions too.

Two Wayne residents were charged with theft after police found more than $2,400 in stolen copper sheets in the back of a vehicle and on the side of the road earlier this week, authorities said.

John Rensing, 21, and John Schneider, 44 were arrested after police found the cooper in the back of the vehicle they were in during a traffic stop on West Belt and Demarest Drive Monday shortly after 10 p.m., an incident report states.
