Flood Warning in Effect

Passic River not expected to crest until Friday morning.

Wayne Township remains under a flood warning and in a local state of emergency.

The Passaic and the Pompton River have risen above flood stage.

Periods of heavy rainfall are expected throughout the morning, according to the National Weather Service. A flood watch remains in effect.

As of 8:30 a.m., the Passaic River in Little Falls was at a height of 7.4 feet. The river is expected to crest at about 10.4 feet Friday morning. As of 8:45 a.m. the Pompton River in Pompton Plains was reported to be at nearly 17 feet high; flood stage for the river is 16 feet. The Passaic River is not expected to crest until Friday morning and then remain at major flood stage, officials from the town’s office of emergency management said today in a press release.

Residents who need to go to a shelter should call the town’s Emergency Operations Center at 973-694-5050 or the police communications desk at 973-694-0600. Requests will be forwarded to Health Officer Mary Ann Orapello.

The Wayne Volunteer Organizations Active in Disaster will continue to prepare meals for flood victims.

The following roads are currently closed:

Riverlawn Drive/Riverside area, Hobson Avenue, Fayette Avenue, Fairfield Road, Meadow Road and the Hoffman Grove area of town.

The Alexander Avenue ramp on Route 23 in Pequannock is also closed.

There are no highway or interchange closures to report at this time.
