Flea Market Featured a Wide Variety of Vendors

Wayne Police Athletic League hosted event.

The Wayne PAL building was bustling with activity both indoors and outside Feb. 27.

With the sound of squeaking sneakers and the swish of basketballs serving as background music in the gym, a flea market was held inside the main building and outside in the parking lot from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Hosted by JC Promotions Inc., the flea market consisted of an assortment of vendors from all over the tri-state area who had a large variety of items for sale.

From vintage collectibles and antiques to sports memorabilia and craft-related items, it was very easy for people of all ages to find something of interest to them.

Several tables featured traditional flea market wares, such as that of Roger Silverman of Bloomfield. Silverman, along with his wife, have been collecting antiques for over 15 years.

“We recently spent four days at the house of an antiques dealer who was retiring,” he said. “We bought several thousand dollars’ worth of items, some of which we hope to sell here today.”

Still, many of the vendors at this particular market were in business for themselves, selling various types of handmade goods.

Katherine Thomas, of Little Ferry and owner of  Kathy’s Creations, sold items crafted via crocheting, knitting, and cross-stitching. The items she had available for purchase at the flea market included a beautiful array of hand-stitched baby blankets, tote bags, and baby clothes in a variety of pastel colors.

“Since spring is coming, I have lots of baby items for sale,” she said.

JoAnn Testa of Totowa, owner of Naturally Simplistic LLC, specializes in all-natural health and beauty items.

Her impressive product line includes bar soaps, lotions, and candles that are created with 100 percent natural ingredients and are available in delicious scents such as coconut lime, lavender vanilla, and cucumber melon.

Thanks to events such as the PAL sale, Testa is able to sell her creations.

“I’ve been doing this for about two years now, and I love it,” Testa said.
