Drivers Continue to Experience Delays on Hamburg

Multi-million dollar construction project designed to improve traffic flow on roadway.

Drivers continue to experience delays on Hamburg Turnpike as improvement work continues on the heavily traveled thoroughfare.

One lane of the roadway was closed down near Valley Road Wednesday. Traffic moved slowly, but steadily, in the area.

Work on the project began in June. County officials estimate it will be complete by the spring of 2014.

“I hope the work doesn't take them any longer than they said it would,” said Nancy Collins as she walked on the street. “It’s great that they’re working on the road I just wish it didn’t cause delays all the time.”

Town officials have said that the project is going well and is on schedule.

The work is part of a massive $9.4 million project to improve traffic flow on the county-owned roadway. Jug handles are being installed on the roadway and left turns are being eliminated to improve the flow of traffic and safety.

One ramp is being built between the Chase Bank building and the new Wayne Chateau restaurant. The move will allow westbound traffic to turn left onto Valley Road.

Another ramp is being built between the Valley National Bank and Caldwell Banker parking lot and the Ramapo Shopping Center to allow eastbound traffic to turn left onto Valley Road.
