DePaul Catholic Student Accepting Donations for Haitian Orphanage

Children need simple games and toys.

Daniella Scaglione, a senior at DePaul Catholic High School, is accepting donations of simple games and toys to donate to the Consolation Center, an orphanage for young girls in Haiti.

Scaglione addressed the town council at last night's meeting about the donation drive; Scaglione is running the drive as part of her Girl Scouts Gold Award project, the highest award a girl scout can earn. She is a Wayne resident and a member of Girl Scout Troop 139.

"The children who are at this place, they have food and are educated everyday, but they do not have a lot to do when they are not in school," Scaglione said. "They just need some basic games and things to play with."

The orphanage is run by the International Humanitarian Aid Foundation Inc., a non-profit organization that assists people in some of the world's poorest countries, including Haiti and Ghana. Scaglione found out about the organization at a leadership retreat at the Wayne Rotary Club in 2010.

Mayor Chris Vergano said that the township is happy to help Scaglione in her efforts. The following items may be dropped off in the box labeled: "Girl Scout Gold Award Toy Donations" in front of Vergano's office in the municipal complex:
