Department of Transportation Receives $2M Grant to Repair Roadways

Money will be used to fix roads damaged by Hurricane Irene.

The New Jersey Department of Transportation has received a $2 million grant to repair highways and roads damaged by Hurricane Irene.

Eligible repair work includes emergency restoration work and permanent repairs  in order to restore thoroughfares to the condition they were before Irene hit New Jersey.

High winds and flooding brought on by Irene damaged Route 23 and other smaller, less traveled roadways in the township, particularly in the Mountainview section of town.

“Repairing our damaged infrastructure is one of the largest tasks in our country in our recovery efforts after Hurricane Irene and this federal aid will help the state see that the job gets done as soon as possible,” U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell Jr. (D-8) said in a statement. Pascrell is co-chairman of the bipartisan Congressional Hurricane Irene Coalition..
