Off-Duty Cop Foils Alleged Burglary

Two New York men were charged with attempted burglary after they tried to break into a Valley Road home Tuesday morning.

Det. Sean Mitchell, who was off-duty at the time, observed two men walking from the rear yard of the residence and detained the men while police investigated.

Devin Okeefe was killed in a two-car accident Wednesday night on Valley Road. 

Okeefe was traveling North on Valley Road when his 1998 Acura crossed over to the southbound lane and crashed into a BMW.

OKeefe died from injuries sustained in the accident at the scene.

Chemistry Teacher Hired for Wayne Valley Class

The Board of Education hired a long-term replacement for a Wayne Valley High School chemistry teacher who went on maternity leave just before school began.

James Kiamie was hired to replace Katie Poremba. Poremba went on maternity leave beginning Sept. 1. Officials hired a long-term replacement earlier this year but the person withdrew his or her name from consideration shortly before school began.

Presbyterian Church Celebrating 50 Years

The Wayne Presbyterian Church was founded 50 years ago. The church body began meeting in the original Anthony Wayne Middle School. The church hosts regular community events and works to reach Wayne and the surrounding area.

‘Housewife’ Helps Raise Money for Autism Research

Hundreds of people attended Sparkle Speaks, a charity tricky tray at The Brownstone in Paterson Thursday. The event raised money for Autism Speaks, an international autism science and advocacy organization. 

Jacqueline Laurita from “The Real Housewives of New Jersey” headlined the event. Her 3-year-old son Nicholas was diagnosed with autism in April.
