Community Comes Together to Help Voit Family

Operation Hope raising money for three children.

A group of residents is banding together to help the Voit family this weekend with Operation Hope.

Lorraine Voit, 44, died Sunday, Dec. 4. Her husband John, 48, died in March. The fundraiser is being held to help their children, Johnny, 16, Stephen, 13, and Christopher, 6.  The , the Wayne Police Athletic League, and teachers throughout the school district are coming together to help pay for Voit’s funeral and help purchase clothes and Christmas gifts for the children.

The football team and cheerleading squad, the football team, band, and booster club are also assisting in the fundraising effort. Johnny is a member of the Wayne Valley football team.

“This is about Wayne coming together as one,” said Lisa Acampora Barbara, who organized Operation Hope. “We all just have to help each other out.”

There will be a poinsettia sale in the Wayne Valley High School gymnasium from 9 a.m. until noon Saturday to raise money for the family.

The group will be accepting donations of Christmas presents, wrapping paper, gift cards, along with cash.

According to her obituary, Voit lived in Clifton for many years before moving to Florida six years ago after her husband John died of cancer. The obituary states she loved animals, dancing with her husband, and singing karaoke with her family and friends.
