Student Baking Cupcakes to Help Cure Cancer

Nicole Considine will bike ride from Baltimore to Seattle to raise money for the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults.

Nicole Considine is selling cupcakes to help raise money for cancer research.

Considine, a Wayne resident and Loyola University student, will ride for 70 days from Baltimore to Seattle as part of the 4 K for Cancer, a fundraising program of the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults.

Considine’s goal is to raise $5,000 for the fund.

“It just seemed like a good idea,” Considine said. “I’m always baking cupcakes and I thought that with the holidays coming up it’d be nice way to raise money and have people get some fresh-baked cupcakes too.”

Considine’s grandfather and uncle are cancer survivors. A Biology major, Considine is optimistic that a cure for the disease will be found.

“We’re always talking about it in my classes,” Considine said. “It’s looking really possible that we will find one someday. It’s just going to take time.”

Considine will bake the cupcakes this weekend and hand deliver them to Wayne residents Wednesday when she comes home for Thanksgiving break this weekend.

The cupcakes cost $25 a dozen and come in the following varieties:

  • Chocolate chocolate chip
  • Mint chocolate chip
  • Almond Joy
  • Carrot cake
  • Cookie dough
  • Cookies ‘n’ cream
  • Vanilla chai
  • Brownie cookie
  • Chocolate/vanilla
  • Vanilla/chocolate
  • Vanilla

Flavors can be mixed and matched.

Orders should be placed online Tuesday morning at the latest.
