Overturned Bus Not Permitted in U.S., Report Says

Three passengers remain in hospital Monday in 'fair' condition.

The Canadian company that operated the bus that overturned on the Interstate 80 exit ramp in Wayne Saturday morning was not authorized for interstate passenger service, NorthJersey.com reported.

AVM Max 2000 Charter Services of Toronto has no operating authority with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, a spokesman with the administration told the website.

The company’s ability to transport passengers was revoked on July 9.

Twelve passengers were taken to area hospitals after the accident, eight of them in critical condition.

Three passengers remain hospitalized Monday morning in “fair” condition, hospital spokeswoman Liz Asani said.

The bus was transporting members of the Seventh Day Adventists church to an to Brooklyn when it crashed on an I-80 exit ramp Saturday morning.

The bus ended up on its side in a grassy area off of the ramp at about 7:50 a.m. The cause of the accident has not yet been released.
