Board Votes to Apply for Grants, Town May Get More Money for Athletic Fields and More on Wayne Patch

  • The Board of Education voted to apply for grants to help fund several capital projects, including replacing part of the roofs at Lafayette Elementary School and Wayne Hills High School.

The board voted on Thursday to seek state funding to help fund the projects. We’ll tell you more about the projects and why the district is applying for grants. We'll let you know why the district is seeking the money for the projects.

  • The North Jersey Food Cooperative will hold its first meeting on Monday, July 22 at the Wayne Public Library at 7:30 p.m. The cooperative is trying to get more locally-grown food into the hands of North Jersey residents.
  • Ina Garten, the host of the Food Network’s “Barefoot Contessa,” will sign copies of her book “Foolproof” at the Stop & Shop on Hamburg Turnpike from noon to 1 p.m. on July 25. We’ll stop by and cover Garten’s appearance.
  • Passaic County, and the township, are expected to benefit from Public Service Electric & Gas’ Energy Strong proposal. The plan is to improve the power company’s infrastructure to better respond to power outages during extreme weather, including Tropical Storm Irene and Super storm Sandy.
  • The Passaic County Board of Chosen Freeholders could allocate more money soon for the installation of athletic fields on Alps Road.  The township is attempting to install the fields on a 12-acre track of land adjacent to DePaul Catholic High School.
