Board of Education Accepting Applications to Fill Vacant Seat

Seat available because Jimenez was appointed to town council.

The Wayne Board of Education is accepting applications to fill a seat vacated by James Jimenez.

The town council appointed Jimenez to finish at-large Councilman Lawrence Maron's term July 20. Maron was appointed to a Super Court Judgeship and had to resign his council seat.

State law prohibits individuals from concurrently serving on municipal governing bodies and boards of education.

Jimenez said he will run for a three-year council term in the November election. 

Individuals who want to become a board of education trustee must:

  • Be a citizen, live in the school district for one year and be able to read and write.
  • Have no interest in any contract with, or claim against, the board.
  • Be registered to vote in the district and not be disqualified from voting under state law 19:4-1.

Interested individuals need to send a letter of interest and a brief resume to: Junita Petty, business administrator/board secretary, Wayne Board of Education, 50 Nellis Drive, Wayne NJ 07470.

The deadline for receiving letters of interest is Monday, Aug. 1.
