Plant Sale, Flower Tour Will Be Held At Arboretum This Week

Attendees can see several different varieties of flowers and birds.

Laurelwood Arboretum is hosting several events in the next week.

Rain or high winds will cancel the event.

  • The Friends of Laurelwood Arboretum (FOLA) will host its annual plant sale on Saturday, May 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m..

Woodland plants, azaleas, and other popular annuals and perennials will be available to purchase. A limited selection of plants grown in the Arboretum’s greenhouses will be available as well.

Sara McHugh will artfully arrange plants purchased at the event in any container someone brings. FOLA will also sell a variety of garden-related items.

All proceeds from the event will benefit FOLA, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and maintaining the arboretum.

  • A tour of the rhododendrons and azaleas while they are in full bloom will be held on Wednesday, May 16 from 4 to 6 p.m.

Al Fitzburgh, a rhododendron expert, will lead the tour and talk about the facility’s collection of rare rhododendrons.

A cart is available for handicapped attendees but those needing to use it should call in advance.

Laurelwood Arboretum is a 30-acre facility located at 725 Pines Lake Drive West. It is home to hundreds of kinds of azaleas, rhododendrons, blubs, annuals, and perennials. Dozens of native dogwoods, daylilies, lilacs, and other plants are flowering there this month.
