Update: Bear Climbs Out of Tree, Runs Out of Sight

Police ranger tried to lure 350-pound animal down with doughnuts.

Update: 7:06 p.m.

The bear slowly climbed down from the tree. It sniffed the ground for a few minutes before briefly trying to climb another tree. The bear then ran across Black Oak Ridge Road and onto the adjacent block out of sight.

Police Ranger Barry Bogert said the bear was reported to be in the tree at about 4 p.m.. Bogert estimates the bear weighed approximately 350 pounds.

Bogert placed boston creme doughnuts at the base of the tree to entice the bear down but the bear remained on the same few branches since shortly before 5 p.m.

Bogert said he was not sure which direction the bear came from.
