At What Age Should Children Begin to Walk to School Alone?

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, children vary in their readiness to handle traffic situations, such as determining a safe time to cross the street.

The Safe Routes to School Program is a national initiative to improve safety and encourage more children to walk to school.
