Alleged Prostitution Ring Busted, Board Trustee Resigns Top Monthly News

Crime stories dominated January as authorities charged several women with soliciating of prostitution and an alleged cocaine dealer living near Anthony Wayne Middle School was arrested.

Alleged Prostitution Bust Made at Wayne Hotels

Six women were charged with solicitation of prostitution after the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office conducted a sweep of hotels throughout the county, including two in Wayne. 

Kingston Resigns from the Board of Education 

After much speculation, Robyn Kingston resigned her seat on the Board of Education. Kingston was elected to the board in 2011. She moved to Texas.

Alleged Drug Dealer Nabbed at Home Near School

Josue Ramirez, 31, was charged after detectives from the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Narcotics searched Ramirez’s Towsen Road home near Anthony Wayne Middle School.

Authorities conducted a month-long investigation of Ramirez. He was charged with possession and possession with intent to distribute. 

Alleged Burglars Arrested Thanks to YouTube Video

Surveillance video that went viral on YouTube led to the arrest of two individuals accused of burglarizing two Oxbow Place residences in December.

Ahmet Islami, 20, of Haledon, and his girlfriend, Marjorie Alva, 21, of Elmwood Park, were each charged with two counts of burglary, theft and receiving stolen property.

Fake Facebook Page About Wayne Man Leads to Charges

A Totowa woman was charged with impersonation and harassment after she reportedly created a fake Facebook page about her boyrfriend.

The woman allegedly used pictures from the man's real Facebook page and said he suffered from sexually transmitted diseases and enjoyed having sex with young boys.

CDM Institute Unexpectedly Shut Down Operations 

The state began an investigation of the CDM Institute after it shut down this month, much to the shock of students.

State Farm Building on Route 23 Destroyed

The town granted the owner of the former State Farm property a demolition permit recently. The building was torn down in a matter of days last month.
