Pet Classifieds: Is 'Free To A Good Home' Really Good For A Pet?

People that surrender a pet via classified ad are risking unknown circumstances and people who may have intentions to harm the animal. Instead, contact a local animal shelter or animal rescue group.

Sometimes there are cases where surrendering a pet was not planned or ever intended due to unfortunate situations, and it is understandable to do what is best for the animal if you can no longer care for them properly.  But who you surrender your pet to makes a big difference in deciding their fate.

There have been recent news reports of animal cruelty by people obtaining pets listed on craigslist.com or other classified advertisements from owners that listed the animal as “free to a good home.”

If you have circumstances beyond your control where you must find a home for your pet, please do not list them on craigslist.com or any other general classified advertisement.  Realize that you are opening up your pet to unknown circumstances and people who may have intentions to harm them.

Instead, you should contact your local animal shelter or animal rescue group since these organizations have your pet’s best interest in mind and have strict policies and screening procedures in place to ensure that they will be adopted into a safe home.  Your pet is depending on you to decide their fate and to give them a second chance at finding a new loving forever home.
