Wayne Woman Named to NJ Biz 'Best 50 Women in Business' List

For Wayne resident Cheryl Biron, being named one of the 'Best 50 Women in Business' in the state for 2014 is one of many professional recognitions she’s received over the years. But this ranking from NJBIZ is an important one, she said.

“This recognition feels great, like my accomplishments are significant,” she told Patch after being named to the list earlier this month.

“I really enjoy sharing my story with others in the business community because I hope that it can inspire young entrepreneurs.”

After graduating with an MBA from the Wharton Business School, Biron spent years working in corporate positions in New York before realizing in 2005 that it wasn’t what she wanted.

“I got a glimpse of what my life would turn out to be like, and I realized I didn't want it,” she said.

“I wanted to spend more time with my kids, I wanted to be home more.”

So, Biron and her husband purchased the assests of a trucking company, and have been running One Horn Transportation from their township home ever since. The duo has turned the company into an agent-based brokerage trucking firm, and has agents all throughout the country.

Biron has become the face of the business, often speaking at ‘Women in Business’ conferences and entrepreneurial events.

“It’s been fun and exciting,” she said.

“Each time I speak, I hope to inspire one person to do something great.”

According to a release, NJ Biz assembles an independent panel each year to choose the ‘Best 50 Women in Business.’

“We are truly fortunate to have the opportunity to recognize this outstanding group of women,” NJ BIZ Publisher Thomas Curtin said in the release.

“As business and community leaders, they are constantly redefining success within and outside the business arena. We would like to thank and congratulate these 50 outstanding women for their dedication to New Jersey’s future.”

Biron said she is “honored” to be one of the selected women.

“I have been inspired by so many women before me, and I’m happy the world continues to evolve, so my daughter and other young women have so many great opportunities open to them. Helping professional women progress in their careers is very important to me.”

NJBIZ and the program sponsors will honor this year’s winners during an awards ceremony on March 24 at The Palace at Somerset Park in Somerset.  The honorees will also be highlighted in a special supplement to NJBIZ on March 31.
