Vision Research Employees to Receive Academy Awards

Four employees will be honored for their engineering of the Phantom digital camera.

Four employees of Vision Research, a manufacturer of digital high-speed imaging systems in Wayne, will recieve Oscars from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for their contributions to the design and development of Phantom digital cameras.

Radu Corlan, Petru Pop, Andy Jantzen, and Richard Toftness will be honored at the Scientific and Engineering Academy Awards ceremony in February.

Film makers are using Phantoms for their instant slow motion replay capabilities. Each camera has a built-in video system, so images can be viewed immediately after they are captured. Their memory capacity is greater than other cameras, as well. Directors from movies like "Inception", "Secretariat", and "TRON: Legacy" have used the camera.

“Vision Research considers it a significant honor to be recognized by its peers in the motion industry for the role its high-speed Phantom cameras have made to modern film making,” Rick Robinson, vice president of marketing said in a statement.

Scientific and Engineering Academy Awards are given for forward-thinking achievements that require a high level of engineering. The Phantom is the first camera to be recognized with an Oscar from the Academy.
