ShopRite Raises $12,000 for Community Food Bank

Two employees helped raise money as part of ShopRite's Partners in Caring fundraising contest.

Two Wayne ShopRite employees spearheaded a campaign that helped raise $12,000 for the Community Food Bank of New Jersey (CFB).

The campaign was part of ShopRite and General Mill’s national Partners in Caring contest.

Jose Marroquin, assistant store manager, and Marcia Kershaw lead a team of ShopRite employees to solicit donations.

“It’s so gratifying to know that we helped raise money for such a great cause and for people who really need help,” Kershaw said.

The CFB helps provide food to thousands of New Jersey families and individuals.

More than $1.2 million was donated through the contest.

Dozens of the top 40 stores that participated in the campaign are from New Jersey.

Marroquin and Kershaw, along with 80 other associates, two from each store, will appear on a limited-edition Cheerios box that was unveiled at the Wayne ShopRite on Thursday.

In addition to the $12,000, ShopRite also gave $500 to Hope Ministries. The ministry helps feed dozens of North Jersey families every week. It is run out of Calvary Temple International Assembly.

“I really feel like we’re partners,” said Tim Carlucci who helps run the ministry. “We couldn’t do what we do without ShopRite or the food bank and we’re so grateful for the donation they chose to give us.”
