Madison Atlanta Bread to Close

Tuesday will be the bakery cafe's last day, the manager said.

The Madison Atlanta Bread Company on Main Street is closing and Tuesday, Oct. 30, will be the bakery cafe's last day, the manager said.

Manager Deborah J. Reynolds said the lease was up and not renewed. Atlanta Bread hopes to open another location in Madison in the future, though no plans to do that have been finalized, she said.

There have been discussions about moving into space in the new Walgreens building, possibly opening in the new location in the spring, she said.

Last month, the Madison Atlanta Bread, which has about 15 employees, posted a sign saying it was not closing amid rumors it was, but Reynolds said she later learned they were closing. They plan to auction the restaurant's equipment.

The sign in September mentioned rumors a Chipotle Mexican grill was going to open in the space. No new word yet on what the plans are.

All of the merchants need to be supported! Maybe you can help get the word out to your friends and neighbors and I thank you for your offer of support. It is not one particular store, it's many of the downtown stores.

Here's a list of downtown merchants I support on a regular basis: Madison pet shop Tons of toys Madison pharmacy the movie theatre McCool's and on an occasional basis: Madison photo plus Nicky's firehouse Starting line sports If your store isn't on the list, it's nothing personal. You just don't sell stuff that I buy. Not to say I don't support you in spirit, but this is commerce not charity.

Support your local merchent goes a long way. They hire local employees and are the backbone of the economy. When seeking to open an office, we looked to Madison for our 4th location. And being in the center of the business district we have found that as we support Madison, Madison recognizes it and has been supporting us. To that, thank you. We are here to stay and be part of the lives of Madison for a long time.

Agreed, would love a Chipotle or Panera. Though I would still find myself going to Bagel Chateau pretty much every morning and Fratelli's for lunch most of the time.
