Haier to Receive No Tax Breaks for Wayne Move

Electronics giant moving 500 to 600 jobs to township.

Haier America will move its corporate headquarters, and 500 to 600 jobs, to Wayne without receiving a corporate tax break from the state.

The electronics giant is moving its headquarters to Wayne from Manhattan. Haier signed a 13-year lease to use a 58,000-square foot building on Valley Road near Valley National Bank. It is not know when the move will take place exactly.

The New Jersey Economic Development Authority told NorthJersey.com that Haier “moved forward with plans to relocate without an incentive.”

Mayor Chris Vergano said he and other municipal officials are “extremely pleased” that Haier decided to relocate to Wayne.

“This move, with their 500 employees, will have a positive effect for small businesses in the neighborhood.”

The announcement comes is one of many business-oriented pieces of good news to occur recently. The QuickChek on Hamburg Turnpike will open Oct. 29. Work on redeveloping the Wayne Town Center is slated to begin this week. And the former Hostess bakery was purchased by Hackman Capital Partners LLC as part of a 140-property real estate deal worth $62.5 million.
