DINNER AND AD JOURNAL IN HONOR OF BARRY BLECHERMAN, SHOMREI TORAH'S MEN'S CLUB MAN OF THE YEAR

Shomrei Torah’s Men’s Club is proud to announce that Dr. Barry Blecherman has been selected as its “Man of the Year.”  A dinner in his honor will be held on Wednesday, November 9 at which time an Ad Journal will be disseminated.  Barry has been an integral part of Men’s Club for many years, with one of his favorite projects being the organizing and running of Texas Hold ’Em poker nights.  Depending on the time of year and beverages served, these events are often affectionately called “Lag-er B’Omer” nights.  Each one has generated hundreds of dollars for charity as well as being a lot of fun for its participants.  Barry even won one of the tournaments (hmmmm….).

Barry has also been extremely involved in Shomrei Torah, having served on its Executive Board as Finance and Fundraising Vice President.  He has also chaired Shomrei Torah’s Finance Committee and its “Green” Committee, dedicated to helping improve the synagogue’s environmental impact.  Barry recently took some time off from his position as Trustee on Shomrei Torah’s Board of Trustees in order to become the Development Chair and Executive Vice President of the Gerrard Berman Day School (GBDS), Solomon Schechter of North Jersey.  At GBDS he has the distinct pleasure of helping his children get a superior education in a large variety of ways, from working to develop community events, to leading a successful effort to get Middle States accreditation for the school, to shopping regularly to supply the school's kitchen.

Barry has a doctorate in applied economics and is currently an Industry Professor of Financial Engineering at NYU-Polytechnic.  When not at work, Men’s Club, synagogue, or GBDS, he enjoys sports, poker, bicycling, sake, and driving his four children all over northern New Jersey to their after-school activities.  Barry is married to Dr. Sarah Blecherman, a pediatrician, who, lucky for Shomrei Torah, took over his seat on Shomrei’s Board of Trustees.
