Electronics Manufacturer Will Bring 500 Jobs to Wayne

Haier American signs a 13-year lease agreement for a building in the 2 million-square foot office park on Valley Road.

An electronic appliance manufacturer has signed a lease to relocate its United States headquarters from Manhattan to Wayne along with 500 jobs, the company’s real estate broker announced Tuesday.

Haier America signed a 13-year lease to use a 58,000-square foot building at 1800 Valley Road near Valley National Bank, UPS, the Toys “R” Us headquarters, and William Paterson University. BET Investments owns the property.

"We are extremely pleased that Haier America has decided to relocate to Wayne. We discussed their possible move about six months ago with the real estate brokers and offered to assist them with a smooth transition to Wayne," said Mayor Chris Vergano. "This move with their 500 employees will have a positive effect for small businesses in the neighborhood.  We look forward to welcoming them to our township."

The move comes weeks after town Planner John Sazabo and Vergano announced a multi-point plan to redevelop several vacant areas of town. They want to make the town a more desirable place to live and work.

Newmark Grubb Knight Frank (NGKF), a commercial real estate advisory firm, represented Haier in the transaction.

“We are delighted to execute the strategy on behalf of Haier in this search to accommodate its vision with a location that can grow with its U.S. operations,” said David Simon, vice chairman of NGKF, in a statement.
